Multi-cat (4) Integration

Older cat put kitten in the ER!

Older cat put kitten in the ER!

"I recently adopted a 4-year old community cat who had been

abused by a caretaker. When I brought her home to join my existing family

of 3 older cats, who have been together for over 8 years, the introduction

did not go as planned.

In the past, I had been lucky, bringing home cats who immediately became

friends. Introducing Martini was another story.

Then luckily, I met Chris!

From day one, she was remarkably intuitive about my situation. For once, I

knew I had to listen to an expert, despite past experiences with my current

cat family.

Chris was patient and understanding, guiding me through the entire

process of integrating Martini into my existing family. Besides her vast

knowledge of cat behavior, Chris was also engaged in every part of the

emotional process even though I was of course in a rush to get the group to

like each other.

Listen to Chris. She follows up, responds to calls, emails and texts. Most of all, Chris taught me to be more patient and understanding of the situation that I, after all, had created.

The situation is not perfect, but it is 100% improved and getting better.

I could not have done it without Chris."

When H. R. first came to me she was distraught, because initially, things seemed to be going well between her 4 year old Balinese and her new 8 month old Devon Rex kitten.  Unfortunately, the rough play turned dangerous and the kitten ended up with a broken leg and in the hospital.   Understanding why feline relationships devolve and how to interpret body language, including aggression vs. play, is critical in a small space where cats have less area to escape.

After her vet added a medication and HR did 3 months of dedicated re-introduction work and play, she sent me this photo and message:

"Hi, it's still going beautifully.  Snuggling and Wellington will groom Franklin sometimes now and Franklin has gotten more playful and likes to wrestle in a  playful way with Wellington.  The difference is so clear now that I see it compared to how it was before!  Thank you for all your support."

Her review:   "Chris was wonderful! So knowledgeable and compassionate to the situation and gave me so many" resources!! My boys love each other now and I can’t thank Chris enough!!

New cat worries...

Older cat put kitten in the ER!

1 yr-old bully and sad Sonny

"Our older cat passed away and our other cat was very unhappy and lonely. We adopted a much younger cat who had a lot more energy. The two cats were not getting along as the new cat liked to jump on my older cat and my older cat wandered around crying.

Not sure what to do, I began to work with Chris who has been extremely helpful - guiding me in ways that helped me to slowly change their behavior. Chris has been very responsive to all my emails and answered them very quickly.

Although my cats are still not best of friends I am seeing changes and more acceptance between my two boys.

 I highly recommend Chris!"

"Chris helped me so much!  I have 4 cats and 1 was bullying another one.  I had tried everything I could think of but it wasn't getting better.  I have a lot of cat experience but my approaches weren’t working.

Chris did a two-hour Zoom with me and we covered all the details.  She asked great questions and I really felt she understood my challenges.  She suggested several detailed things for me to try.  After the Zoom, she documented everything in writing so I had perfect notes to refer to.

I learned so much about cat behavior in general and started implementing the changes she recommended.  I'm thrilled that I'm seeing a difference in my cats' behavior after only 5 weeks!

Besides being very knowledgeable about cats, Chris is extremely professional.  From the first phone consult we did, she always follows-up when she says she will, promptly replies to emails or texts, and is always available for questions and issues.  I will be recommending Chris to anyone who has a kitty issue they need help with.  She's amazing!!"

Introducing A New Adult Kitty

I worked with these clients for several months and we had multiple training sessions, as reintroductions of a strange cat to a group can be a lengthy process.  Queenie became more comfortable in the house and was able to come out of her "safe" room when another male was with her.

"Chris went above and beyond to help us integrate a stray kitty into our family of three resident cats. She was always available for advice and encouragement. It was invaluable to have the support of someone who understood what our cats were thinking and what they needed. It was really a relief and gave us confidence we just didn't otherwise have."

Carrier Training

I got this report from Addie 2 months after working with her.      Livi, her cat, was traumatized by vet visits and wouldn't go into the carrier again, even though she used to.  Addie wanted to travel with her cat a few times/year.

"Livi is doing so well! I've worked really hard at lowering her anxiety and training her a little bit every day. I stopped using the clicker and that seems to be working better for us. I was even able to bring her to my parent's for thanksgiving without much issue! I was really nervous she wouldn't be ready for travel by thanksgiving, but she ended up doing SO much better than expected. In the last several weeks I've even caught her laying in her kennel and falling asleep. I used the feliway spray in the kennel and I have been leaving treats in there for her to find. When we left to travel, she did get a little bit anxious when she first went in and she wasn't entirely happy, but overall it was a much calmer experience.

Thank you for all your recommendations! I really hope we continue to progress forward and only get better from here :)

I definitely feel like both of our anxiety has decreased, which was exactly what we needed! "

Misha the Bully

"We got in contact with Chris from one of her colleagues and it has been a great experience. Since we are not located in the same area, first we had conversations about the cat bullying issue over Zoom, and Chris showed great patience with getting to know our cats and listening to our needs.

Chris provides several practical ways to improve our cats’ relationship, giving out advice on their daily routine like changing diet, feeding schedules, litter boxes, etc. And also she educates the cat owner so we can know more about the cats.

She sends over a few articles and videos about how to treat cats with aggressive issues and raising cats in general.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience to work with her and I would recommend her to my friends in the future!”

One month post-consults: "Misha has been great recently, now the interaction between them seems more playful and equal, instead of one side bullying, so I think it’s on the right track."

Multi-Cat Aggression

I worked with this client for several months, as she had a fairly severe aggression case among 5 cats.   She kindly sent me this quote after things improved:

"Chris's knowledge of techniques and her passion for improving pet behavior and relations was integral to helping improve the aggression among our cats.  There is a desert in the area of behavior and I am grateful Chris is filling the void"

Empty Litter Boxes??!!

HELP! High energy companion kitten!!

"We have two cats who are adapted to being indoors all the time. For their entire lives we have kept their litter boxes in the garage –accessible via a cat door. After two days of finding empty litter boxes, I found the alternative “litter” places in a pile of dirty towels and two rugs!! This was an emergency! I had no idea what was going on. So I called Chris!

Chris responded to my text the same day with a call – and asked questions that told me she was knowledgeable about normal and abnormal cat behavior. She gave us a list of things to try, while making sure we knew the cats were healthy and eating properly. I was impressed that the very first thing she suggested – moving a litter box inside – did the trick! No more using rugs or dirty clothes for litter!

Chris had asked us if we had changed anything in the garage. It turns out that there was something in the garage that smelled scary to a cat. Once that item was removed, at least one of the cats is back using the garage litter. If I have any kitty questions, I will not hesitate to call!

HELP! High energy companion kitten!!

"Chris gave me so much great practical advice on how to divert and deter Moxie from unwanted behaviors and introduced me to positive reinforcements via praise, treats and clicker training.  The concept of diversion was a game changer in how I interacted with my super active kitten.

Chris also gave great advice on toys, puzzle feeders, feeding and even how to handle nail trimming. Chris’s recommended methods have allowed me to see behaviors through Moxie’s point of view and removed my frustrations with my previous approaches not working."
